The idea behind this test was Worst-Case Scenario.
We wanted to make things very difficult for the jammers so their true performance capabilities would shine. So, a test vehicle was chosen that was easy for the laser guns, but difficult for the jammers: a silver SUV with a chrome grille.

We selected a test course that is approximately 1800 feet long. Despite a court ruling that laser tickets in one state are invalid if issued beyond 1000 feet, tickets have sometimes been issued at distances as long as our test course. The actual operating range of the laser guns is much longer than our course, but we still did base runs (with no jammer) against each gun for a control.

Jammers were installed by Sethy, after taking the manufacturer's recommendations into consideration. Proper mounting is critical to jamming performance, and Sethy has a LOT of experience in this area. He has perhaps installed more jammers than many people even see in a lifetime. The target vehicle was driven towards the laser until punchthrough occurred. Most jammers got six runs against each gun: three plate shots and three headlight shots. In all headlight shots, the driver's side headlight was targeted. All laser guns were affixed to tripods (unless otherwise noted), and operated in constant targeting mode. The test vehicle was targeted by Outrun and filmed through the viewfinder on the laser gun. Results were recorded by jimbonzzz.

Remember, this is Worst-Case Scenario!!! You would most certainly get better results on many other vehicles, save for possibly a Hummer. It should say a LOT about the integrity of the companies who supported the testing of their units under such rigorous conditions, especially knowing full well that the Guys of LIDAR would report the test results exactly as they happened.

Results shown are the number of feet at which punchthrough occurred.
JTG = Jammed To Gun.
